A. The server you want to work on will be restricted. You can ask your work place network/server administrator to setup an account for you, most likely you can establish Virtue Private Network (VPN) connection, and you will be able to log on to your network at work.

Will a proxy server that I purchase be more versatile than the free proxy servers?
Q. I have found that when using free proxy servers, some web sites are inaccessible through the proxy server -- for instance, registration sites for discussion boards. If I purchase my own proxy server, will I still experience this problem?

How do I setup a proxy server for private browsing?
Q. Can someone explain how to setup and use a proxy server for internet privacy? I have also heard about Tor by Google. What are the benefits of using one service over another? Does this work for email also and if so how?

A. Your best bet is to use a proxy software. I know the one I use has no manual configuration...I literally only press 1 button to sign on. It is much more convenient to have this option instead of having to go through proxy lists and find out which one is or isn't blocked. Aside from that, a proxy software will also offer advanced security features that a random IP found on some list can't offer. The one I use also encrypts my connection so that no one can spy on my data stream.

A. Just go into your Firefox proxy settings and disable the proxy setting. Then stop using unknown proxies as you are going to end up trashing your computer. Even if you do get a proxy to work for a bit what do you get? A lot of these are hacker pots designed to either steal your information or plant bots on your computer that they can use. The recent facebook and Twitter DDOS attacks the took down their entire networks is a classic example of what people using proxies and getting infected enables. Even if it s not a hacker pot it s probably loaded with advertisements as that s how the owner is making money. In either case the owner has no incentive to provide fast response or high bandwidth. The owner of the proxy is using you and… [cont.]

How do I set up a proxy server for use with uTorrent?
Q. I use windows Vista and no matter what I try uTorrent just won't work. I'm hoping that a proxy server will help but I have pretty much no clue what that is or how you use one.
Asked by Foolish Guru - Fri Jul 24 15:24:31 2009 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments

A. If utorrent just won't work period, then using a proxy will not correct that. You may need to check that you have the ports utorrent uses properly forwarded to your router. There are some guides showing how to do this on the utorrent site. I am using Vuze and am not sure of the settings necessary for setting up proxy use but I would think it would be similar. You need to only set up the proxy for your upload connection (if u can). This way your downloading is not slowed by the use of the proxy.

A. Proxies don't hide your address, it's an illusion. The leak your IP address through Java, flash and a host of other methods. A retarded system admin could figure it out if they wanted to.

A. A proxy server is a server that passes requests back and forth between you and the internet. For example, when someone connects to the internet at their work (or other institution), they usually have to send all internet requests (such as website addresses to view) to their employer's proxy server, or the request will be blocked by their employer's firewall. Most ISPs that offer home connectivity do not use a proxy server, but NetZero DSL might (I don't know.). In your Firefox settings, Firefox is being told to either use a proxy that does not exist, or not being told to use the proxy that you need to connect to the internet. This is simple to fix. 1) Type about:config in your address bar, and hit return. 2) If you've never manually… [cont.]

A. Why do you need a proxy? If you have a direct Internet connection, just join the wireless network. However, a proxy is normally configured in your web browser configuration.

A. Best advice is that don't use proxies, they leak information and are easy to block. I personally use the Personal VPN to unblock everything. Unlike proxies it is secure and totally encrypts your entire network connection. It does not get blocked and does not raise questions. And if you don't want to pay and stick to a proxy, I will suggest hotspotsheild Hotspotsheild is really a good package compared to other packages. It allows you to run all applications of Facebook. There's a minor hassle involved in that you will need to download the package from the website I gave and make minor changes into your control panel. Down with authoritarian CCP government! Cheers!

A. your proxy gets info by the port number along with the request and thats beyond security because its still at the request phase. for example, the HTTP port number is 80 so ur paket sent is gonna read a .80 at the end of it and thats how ur proxy or a proxy know what u doin or requesting.

How do you add a user agent into a proxy server?
Q. I am having trouble getting google earth pro to work. Now the google support (or lack of support) team, suggest that we need to a user agent into our proxy server. But no one in a team of 20+ IT staff have heard of using "user agents" with regards to proxy server. We are using a standard Microsoft proxy, behind a check point firewall and we know that the firewall is definatly not causing the problem.
Asked by David L - Thu Oct 26 04:54:56 2006 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. If the proxy is passing on the information then Google Earth itself (or your web browser etc) should be sending out a user agent and your proxy should simply pass it along. It's possible I guess that either your proxy or firewall is stripping out the user agent from requests, although i would be surprised. You can check that by visiting and seeing what it can see. The problem is probably down to an incompatibility between google earth and your proxy... is your proxy using http 1.1 or 1.0 for example. Also check out this page It seems you're not alone in having problems with Google Earth and proxies... I just did this search and found lots more people in the same boat. Perhaps some of those search results would help.

How much privacy protection does a proxy server provide?
Q. If one were to connect to a annonymous proxy server and surf the web, download or run applications, would one's ISP still be able to track the activity of the user? Or is it no longer possible, with the ISP having information that all the user did was to log into a particular server? Why or why not? I need to know whether it is possible for my ISP to track my activities once I utilise a proxy server.
Asked by lordxeragon - Sat Aug 18 23:26:07 2007 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments

A. your ISP is a required physical network hop for you to get online, therefor they can see what you do as far as packet handling goes. But places don't just surf users packets, they have to have a legal reason to want to monitor a user whether it be a breach in the contracted agreement of use or external law enforcement wanting to monitor a users connection. A proxy is just going to route all the data you see to make it a longer hop from outside the ISP. You're essentially making more hops for an outside trace to find your ISP. Once that is found a proxy isn't going to slow down your provider at all.
