How do I get a number of my choice from any mobile service in India?
Q. Mobile Services such as Airtel, BSNL allot mobile telephone numbers and sometimes they auction fancy numbers. But in case I want a number of my choice (need not be a fancy number), how do I get it? Is there any portal where I can get help on numbers available and numbers not already allotted to users?

A. Like you mentioned. Everything is available for a price. You will get any number with the mobile companies if you are willing to pay for it and if it is available. I know one thing in BSNL landlines, if the number is available and if you want it you dont have to pay anything, unless the bureaucrat dealing with you wants to make a fast buck for himself. Same should be the case with BSNL mobile. However they release numbers in small batches as if they have no place to hoard stocks of simcards. So you need to get lucky for the number - fancy or otherwise. Try calling up the number that you wish to take. If you get a message that the number does not exist, apply for it with the respective exchange as if it was the normal procedure. You will… [cont.]
