Hypertext Transfer Protocol Secure (HTTPS) is a combination of the Hypertext Transfer Protocol with the SSL/TLS protocol to provide encryption and secure identification of the server. HTTPS connections are often used for payment transactions on the World Wide Web and for sensitive transactions in corporate information systems. HTTPS should not be confused with Secure HTTP (S-HTTP) specified in RFC 2660.

How does a website earn its "s", for secure after http?
Q. In my knowledge most banks' websites have it.

A. You don't earn it, you purchase it... at any security registrar. It's called SSL or "security certificate". Godaddy.com sells those really cheap. Once those installed on your IIS / Apahce or other web server software, you can access security enabled directories on your website.

A. New Zealand Here's why New Zealand has a developed, well-functioning banking system that provides generous amounts of business and consumer credit. Domestic credit provided by the banking sector reached 117.5% of GDP in 2000 (latest available data), according to the World Bank. This is a lower level than in the most intensely banked economies in the world, but it indicates that bank loans are more readily available in New Zealand than in such sophisticated economies as Canada and Australia. The New Zealand banking system consists of 16 registered banks with more than 90 percent of their combined assets under the ownership of foreign banks (Australian banks account for 87 percent of the total). How secure is the wireless internet connection my building provides?
Q. I live in a large apartment block and there is a company who provides wireless internet service for the whole building. I'm wondering if there are any security issues with this. I log on through a web site and therefore don't use a modem, router or any other device which usually have security features. Also, are there any additional steps I could take to make it more secure. Thanks
