How do I get junkyard paint off my car door?
Q. I had the door of my car replaced with a door from a junkyard and I want the annoying paint numbers off. I was able to scrape the numbers off the windows, but don't know how to get them off the door without scraping the actual paint of the door.

What type of good car audio things can find in a junkyard and for about how much will it be?
Q. I wanted to replace my speakers for my 1996 nissan pathfinder and my dad told me to go to the junkyard and get it. He was uncertain as to what the prices would be. But i also want to get subwoofers for my car and maybe another in dash stereo. Do you think i would find that stuff in the junk yard and for how much will they range from?

A. nope. anything that is easily removed and converted to cash like stereo equipment is gone by the time the junkyard stocks it in.

Who is liable for my unpaid parking tickets if my car has been sold to a junkyard?
Q. I have two unpaid parking tickets. I read that if I've sold my car, the new owner is responsible for the unpaid parking tickets. However, I've sold the car to a junkyard, and it has been scrapped for parts. Should I still pay the tickets at this point? Or should I send in the illegal parking notices with my change-of-ownership to the DMV?
Asked by BD - Tue Apr 1 01:18:57 2008 - - 7 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Well it depends, did you get the tickets before you sold it?, if so then you are responsible, but if you sold it and the junkyard got the tickets then you are still probably responsible, junk yards have a bad habit of not changing the ownership and parking anywhere not caring because it's not in their name, you were supposed to file the release of liability, with DMV, when you sold it, to prove the tickets are not yours if you didn't you have to pay them or they will come and lock your current car now or later they will lock your car until you pay, and if you don't pay now the fines will grow, and if you can't pay they take your car and you probably still have to pay, with interest growing. And just because you sold it as junk to the junk… [cont.]

What is the movie where a couple get stuck in a junkyard with a guy who removes his nose at night?
Q. Sorry for the vague detail, but the movie is probably late 1980s to early 1990s, and I think its plot is something about a couple who go on a road trip but then get sidetracked into staying at a junkyard with a bunch of weirdos. In one of the scenes, one of the starring weirdos is seen going to bed, at which point he removes his nose and other body parts as if they are dentures. Thanks for any help you can provide.

Anyone knows of a movie which starts with someone picking up robot parts in a junkyard?
Q. I watched this film when I was young. Definitely before 2002. I was too young to remember what the movie's about or what it's title was. I do remember, however, that it starts with a dark scene where someone picks up a robotic eyeball in a junkyard or dumping ground. That piece is later used in the construction of a female robot I think. Sorta reminds me of Osamu Tezuka's 2002 "Metropolis".

Where can I photograph cars in a junkyard?
Q. I live in the San Francisco East Bay Area and I want to take some photographs in a junkyard type setting. Old, broken, beat down cars. Dismantled, junky. I've seen so many great photos like this but I have no idea how to go about finding a location like that. Does anyone have any idea of a place to go in my area? I'm willing to travel a bit if it's exactly what I'm looking for. Thanks,

A. I used to live in the South Bay and I remember there were places where people could walk through and pick out parts to old, junky cars. I cannot remember the name of the place but I do know one was on Monterey Rd. near Tully and another near the Berryessa Flea Market. I'll do a quick hunt see if I can find the name. EDIT: Woo! Over 3 years since I moved from the Bay and I can still find this stuff. Pick-N-Pull is the name. I was just in San Jose but I don't think I drove past the one I used to go to when I was there. Here is a link to their web site: Check that out. Don't know if they will let you do photography but you can always call and find out. Good luck!

What junkyard in Commerce City or Denver will let me look around for hubcaps and other car parts?
Q. I want to look for some hubcaps or rims (not a particular type, just something that will fit my car) what auto parts yard will let me in without treating me like I want to steal or break everything? I would also like to find a place with some classic cars and parts, if there are any there that fit this description.
Asked by Kevin M - Sun Sep 13 16:15:02 2009 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Most wont let you in because of the reasons you mentioned. Plus there is a safety issue too. Wrecked cars stacked up, sharp edges and glass, we are in a claim culture, they wont want to be sued. I would go and see them and explain your situation. I think most of the good items like trims will be behind the counter anyway. If they are a good breaker they might have an idea of what you want or could possibly suggest an item for you. The other option is look on the internet for pictures of the stuff or ideas of what you want, print it out and take it to them. You can then save wasting your time as they can see what your looking for.

A. just go to the junk yard and tell them what you need and they will get you the wheels and then go to any place that sells or replaces tires and they will change them and balance them for you,the cost is around 12 bucks a wheel total, that's not to bad though ,good luck.

A. I had to go into the DMV (wherever you register your car) and get a salvaged title for my junkyard car. And to the guy who laughing... you got taken on your last car deal. Junkyard cars can be a great car learning experience that can save you money now and later when you have a nice car and some dealer tries to take you to the cleaner on a minor repair - you'll know what they are talking about and might be able to fix it yourself. Good Luck.

A. The smart thing would be to strip and sell what you can. Metal dealers are giving upwards of 150.00 just for your catalytic converter. Steel is at an all time high and junk cars are bringing more than ever. They require that you remove the fuel tank and that is all. Their machines rip the car to shred and separate the metal from all the plastic, rubber and glass. They will pay you buy the pound. Sell in parts and then sell for steel and end up with more like 7 to 12 hundred or even more. Don't let those junk haulers give you 50 to 150 for your car unless you would rather they make the cash
